The Brunch Club
This week I have been mostly... out. After the glory of pancake day I had a hardcore human rights lecture and toodled off to the ICA to go see 'Iraq in Fragments'. I had never been to see a film there before and when it said cinema 2 you'd naturally presume it to be a reasonably sized theatre. However, when I entered it was dinky and could fit about 30 people in it, which I found incredibly quaint.

They showed a film before the feature which was this 15 mins short called 'Weddings and Beheadings' which was aptly and nicely done. It was about this guy who used to film weddings for a source of income and now shoots beheadings as they are more of a regular occurrance. He went into detail about the right light and conditions for shooting the footage and it was a wonderful biting satire that complimented the feature.

Iraq in Fragments was the story from 3 different people's prospectives about life in Iraq during the war. Incredibly moving and powerful imagery, I was glued to the screen throughout and somehow managed to take down notes through the film.

After the film I met up with my school friend Ro and thought that it would be good to go for a bite to eat as whenever we meet up we tend to consume large quantities of tasty food! So, I took her to 'Leon' on Carnaby Street as we were feeling we should be slightly healthy, for once. Leon is this wonderful small chain where all the food is organic and very tasty. They even had hot apple toddy's which were delectable!

We opted for a tapas selection as we are both nibbly eaters which suited us to a tee. Which brings me onto my next event which I am going to go to next week.

We are going to go to the Barbican to go see 'The Science of Sleep', which is directed by Michel Gondry (the same person that did eternal sunshine and numerous music videos) so that should be really visually spectacular.

Thursday, I was back at the ICA for the talk on 'Is the BBC Institutionally biased?' where I saw Joy, from the Indy on Sunday who seemed a bit awkward to see me, nevermind. It had Robin Aitkin conveying his views on the BBC which is all in his book and was incredibly persuasive and enthralling. He had no qualms about interrupting speakers or passionately defending his views as he 'knew' he was right and no matter what any of the speakers or the audience said, in his opinion they were wrong. I'm definitely going to write that up as it was an intense but enlighting discussion which is highly relevant to my course.

Saturday, I was supposed to go to the march at trafalgar square but had too many domestic responsibilities before I had to be at my gig at the Astoria. I went off to see 'The Gossip' which have recently become a bit of a household name here due to the face that their song 'Standing in the way of control' was featured on the adverts for the new e4 series 'Skins'. I may have already said this before but I foolishly thought that the gig was last week and went all the way there only to have an epiphany at Kings cross where I realised that last saturday was not the 24th of feb. DOH! However, went and saw them yesterday and the lead singer, Beth Ditto, came out on stage in an electric blue, skin-tight leotard with a black belt around her waist. Now, Beth isn't a small girl, she is in fact the opposite. But she just stood there at ease, with immense confidence and grace and screached out her fantastic songs. The set only lasted an hour but the ambience in the Astoria was electrifying. The way she was strutting and stopping on stage throughout every song with her ridiculous black killer heels on was applaudable. They played their most famous song, 'Standing in the way of control' last and the Astoria went nuts! Everyone was dancing and screaming and rocking the place down, it was fantastic. I was really buzzing straight after the gig, which is why I went for a tasty cocktail at 'Nordic' afterwards. The best thing about this cocktail was that is had white chocolate shavings and white maltesers in it. Immense!!!

Today, I met up with my friends in Curtain Road to go for brunch. I have recently been going to more brunches as I find them really fulfilling and great as it's a nice way to spend a sunday afternoon. Good food, good company, very chilled. We went to 'The Diner' as my boyfriend and I said we would go to their brunch place if they went to ours next week. The deal was made and we came to Old street. However, as we predicted their place was nowhere near as good as ours, which is the 'Chelsea Bun' just off The Kings Road. The 'Chelsea Bun' has been named the Number 1 brunch place in London because it is just that good! They'll see next week, mark my words.

Phew, a lot of text there to digest, but I have been a busy busy bee. The same is true of next week, I just want to put my feet up, bring on brunch next Sunday!!!!
